The future PUBLIC indoor tennis facility

We believe the Treasure Valley is long overdue for a public in door facility, where anyone can play without a membership.

77% of area players play outdoors on public courts, but have no place to play when it is cold, hot, smokey, or wet without a membership.  Together, we can increase access to year-round tennis, provide more quality programs, foster the love of the game, and provide more tournaments and competitive play for kids and adults.

Project details:

Phase 1: Land acquisition - $350,000-$500,000

According to the 2023 survey responders, most tennis clients would drive 15-20 minutes to the indoor facility.  Below is a map from the center of Boise, Meridian, Nampa, and Eagle based on a 20 minute radius of average driving times.  The overlapping shaded area would be ideal for building the tennis facility to accommodate the most number of potential clients.

Phase 2: Construction of the Air Dome System

Benefits to an Air Dome:

  • Air dome material life span: 20-25 years

  • Cost to build: $20-$25/sq foot

  • Cost to operate HVAC (yearly): $1.50/sq foot

  • Weather resistance: Low-bias cable system sheds snow. Up to code on wind resistance

  • Fabric durability: 3 layer fabric with air barrier between layers resists puncture and vandalism.  Can be patched if damaged.  Very slow to deflate if punctured due to HVAC fan system, allowing for evacuation.

  • Energy efficiency: HVAC - high volume air flow for precise temperature regulation, Bluetooth controls, fresh air flow for safety and health, natural gas powered, 60 dBs (quiet as normal conversation volume or an AC unit)

  • Warranty: 20 years for material. 1 year for HVAC system

Timeline to completion: 8-12 months after site readiness

Although an air dome can be temporarily be taken down in the summer, there are significant cons associated with a temporary structure.  Due to the cost of $2 per square foot each time for take-down and put-up, a down time of 2-7 days, decreased life span of the dome by 5-10 years, and storage costs, it is more feasible to maintain a permanent structure, especially since Idaho summers are commonly over 100 degrees, air can be filled with wildfire smoke, and wind and thunderstorms can be prevalent during the outdoor tennis season.

Therefore, the tennis center will be contained within a permanent air dome structure of approximately 62,500 square feet, excluding parking.

Estimated air dome construction costs: $1.25 million - $1.56 million

Other costs that may be incurred during construction, include the air dome anchoring system, tennis court construction, utility and natural gas line placement, water/sewer line placement, internet installation, parking lot construction and paving, exterior lighting, basic landscaping and pathways, and business sign installation.

Estimated costs for these services are expected to be $750,000-$1.44 million.  An energy cost analysis will be performed once the land is acquired.

Post-tension tennis court construction is estimated at $125,000 per court = $750,000 for 6 courts, including paint, lines, posts, and nets.  Most post-tension courts have a 20+ year life span.

Total costs (estimate) for the project: $3.63 - $4.45 million
